Kings Field – Time at the bar

Just a quick reminder people…. this Thursday (24th) I’ve got to head to the last Skatepark meeting before our brief goes out to tender with all the park building companies. Don’t forget to have your say about what you want see in the new park. Hit up the comments and i’ll check them before the meeting. React!!

Kings Field Redevelopment

The latest skate park development meeting took place on Thursday 3rd September.

In attendance were Gaye Galvin, Matt (skaters), Aaron (BMXers), Sean (Inline Skaters) plus Steve and myself.

The number of attendees is lower to the previous meeting there was an agreement to elect representatives of each user group of the skate park so that views could be collated.  There are currently two ways for skate park users to share their views regarding the skate park development – either through their representative or on the current ‘post-it note display’ at the KCAFE.

The main points covered in the meeting were as follows:

1. FEATURES SO FAR
a. Good flow and transition –

b. Not a bowl – but bend/curves to be included – an example of this is at Dorchester.

c. Not too big/too small (ramp heights around 6ft)

d. Beginners area (like Horsham) out of the way of the main park wheeled traffic

e. Must have a long, wide linked 1/2 pipe – long stretch, wider, so you do not fall off the side.

f. Edges should have coping on one side and angle iron on the other

g.Varnished concrete surface (NOT paint) Like Royal Oak

h. A surrounding bank with seating, shelter and ability to act as wind break for those freezing windy winter days – like at Tolworth

i. A bit of debate around stairs but on the whole it was yes but maybe with a bank either side.

j. finish, not paint better quality so to reduce deterioration and roughness
k. street elements – driveways
l. Wall ride
m. Vertical aspect to a ramp
n. long grind rail – circular not square
o. Boxes

p. Grind blocks to use as manual pad
q. incorporate into half pipe

Kings Field Skatepark – Meeting Update

So I went to another skatepark meeting tonight…. Not much to report really. I suggested a few things that people had requested (namely a spine and a wall ride). Everyone was was keen to see those in the final design.

There is a board up in the Kcafe to put down your ideas for the new park which will be taken down on the 24th September.
After that our design brief will be finalised and the project will go out to tender. When the drawings come back from the park builders then comes the big battle royal to decide the final plan!!

Roll on May 2010 and our new Park!

Kingston Skatepark Jam

Well here it is, Kingston June Skatepark Jam

Ktown compage

As you probably know Saturday was the latest comp at Kingston Skatepark, sweet weather, good turnout, goodtimes. Sam won it, Rory 2nd and Jake 3rd. Everyone rode good though. The under 18′s have noticeably improved since the last one, good work kiddies. Heres some photos, apologies for them being a bit shit, I was judging as well and its hard with a pen and paper in the other hand trying to take notes!

Kingston Skatepark BMX Comp, Round 2

Be There!

Kings Field (Kingston) Skatepark

As most of you know everyone has been working hard to get Kings Field (Kingston) Skatepark rebuilt for the last year. There have been meetings at Kingston skatepark cafe and Jams have been held to help raise awareness to council / mayor types to provide funding to build a park that Kingston deserves.

The next step to get this skatepark built is to get as many people as possible to sign a voting form so the council can provide enough funding for a new park. If you are in Kingston/Surbiton or even the Surrey area then drop into Recycles Bike Shop / Evans Cycles or drop by the Skatepark and sign that form!

Cheers to Bel from Zeal for the info.

Kingston Skatepark Comp 09

Its been a while now but ive finally manage to put together a little edit of Kingston skatepark comp. Was a good day, weather was awesome and lots of people came out for it. Looking forward to the next one.

24th Jan 09

Had another meeting today with council members, charity, youth workers and the guy who project managed the park at Camden (cantelowesskatepark.co.uk). Was good to have an insight of how other parks got developed and built from the ground up. The guy took us through what potentially we had to do to get it running and raise funding, which was helpful. The idea is mainly toward a street course rather then a bowl as bowls normally have one in one out system which sucks. There will be some ramp builder down on Friday to work out the best positions for the ramps, so more designs coming soon.

One of the ideas that was circulating was having a petition so one will be set up at Kingston skatepark in the cafe. So anyone who wants to have a new park get down there and sign the petition! Probably get a online petition going as well so look out for that soon!

Some designs to look over:

23rd Dec 08

At the moment we are at the point where vague plans have been drawn up in order to get rough quotes so we know what sort of money we’re talking about. Right now its looking to e bint he region of £300000. A shit load of money. We’re leaning towards a concrete park as this wont require further money for maintenance to the same degree as a wood park would. Bellerby has been in contact with a few well reputed concrete park builders so hopefully they’ll be helping us draw up some more detailed plans and take things further forward. Meetings are currently taking place every third Saturday at the Café, so if you want your say then come down. Unless your say is shit in which case don’t bother.

look like good plans. on plan a think there should be a quarter/flatbank on the end of the block that faces the jump box, just to give you more options to flow round the park…

James on January 15th, 2009

Yeah good idea. The two designs are the first ones to be drawn up, hopefully talking with a guy on the 24th to go over plan designs. Updated plans soon.

plans look good
would be sad to see the ol’ skatepark be rebuilt but im sure its for the best. Plan A looks the best but B does have some pretty kl features. just make sure they stick a few rails in there like the stuff there now.

Alex on April 13th, 2009

there should be a box
with a higher bit on it aswell
and obvs some stairs
7 with a handrail

Tim Clark on June 18th, 2009

It looks like the designs are very much geared towards bmxing. Its a shame about no skaters interested in puttng there thoughts forward, but you don’t have to be sarcastic. Also I think it’s only right to consider all types that will use the park

Thanks Tim

The top designs look mental, aim high though! I would like to point out that the grass is really out of proportion though, so when you get your new ramps, make sure you get the right length grass. Nobody likes big grass.
